Wildlife at Birdham

Birdham Pool is located in Chichester Harbour, set in West Sussex countryside.   The harbour is a conservation area and the Pool itself provides a haven to wildlife.

The Pool is an old mill pool, which is bisected by a causeway, one side of which is the Marina, the other side is shallow wetlands that is home to many birds.  The causeway is part of the Chichester harbour coastal path  Within the pool swans, ducks, coots, moorhens and herons can be frequently seen, along with cormorants.   Kingfishers can occasionally be seen at the lock.    In the autumn migrating swallows stop off at the Pool.

Within the pool grey mullet abound,  sometimes seals can be found just outside of the lock, usually early in the morning.  In the harbour  you may occasionally see a cuttlefish swimming alongside your boat.

The Association works with Castle Marinas and the conservancy to preserve the character of this unique and special place.
